FLC News Reports: Conference explores innovations, ethical challenges, and the future of Artificial Intelligence
The Four Corners AI Conference, hosted by Fort Lewis College and the La Plata Economic Development Alliance, brought over 400 attendees together on FLC’s campus to explore AI’s transformative potential and ethical complexities.
Keynote speaker Nichole Sterling described AI as being at a “fascinating crossroads in human history,” offering solutions for housing and education while cautioning about its potential to amplify societal biases. FLC Provost Mario Martinez encouraged attendees to approach AI with curiosity, saying, “This day is about engaging in that conversation—learning together and having some fun along the way.”
Interactive sessions showcased AI’s practical applications, from designing apps to enhancing marketing and education, emphasizing that “humans are still at the helm,” as noted by Alliance Executive Director, Sarah Tober.
