Durango Herald Writes: Proposed business park south of Durango could noticeably increase county’s share of manufacturing jobs

In a recent article, the Durango Herald covers the new strategic plan for the Animas Air Park and La Posta area south of Durango. Prepared by Pioneer Development Co., the study evaluates 160 acres of Southern Ute Indian Tribe land for commercial and industrial development over a buildout running from 2029 to 2049, and estimates the project could support roughly 1,930 permanent jobs.

The development is hoped to be a unifying solution to La Plata County’s economic lull, which has spanned the course of more than a decade. According to the strategic plan, La Plata County has not experienced a growth in gross domestic product since 2013.

The Animas Airpark and La Posta Economic Feasibility and Strategic Plan was shaped alongside La Plata County, the City of Durango and the Southern Ute Indian Tribe, and that same partnership is what will carry the work forward. Through strategic, data-driven economic development, the Alliance is committed to building business capacity and closing the infrastructure gaps that leave local businesses with nowhere to expand.
