Alliance Announces

Professional Development Program

A Course Designed for Managers

The La Plata County Economic Development Alliance (Alliance) and P4 Consulting have partnered to offer a Professional Development Program for managers in the Four Corners area. The Professional Development Program, to be launched this fall, was developed by P4 and will provide the same high quality training found at Duke University, Denver University, and other leading business schools.

The Professional Development Program is designed for front line and mid-level managers, enabling them to grow into better and more advanced leaders within a company.  Using experiential and practical training techniques, the program will build from personal management styles, to mastering team leadership, and finally organizational effectiveness.  It is a 48-hour course, occurring over nine classes, and is held in Durango, Colorado.

The Professional Development Program will help organizations:

  • increase the ability to effectively promote quality employees,
  • diminish turnover and recruitment costs,
  • access quality training without the costs of travel,
  • enhance productivity by cultivating leadership skills, and
  • avoid the need to create their own training programs.

The implementation of the local Professional Development Program is the result of interviewing over 100 employers in the Four Corners.  The companies indicated the desire for employees to be trained and become proficient in practical and soft skills; such as effective communication, conflict management, decision making, and problem solving.

Roger Zalneraitis, Alliance Executive Director said, “The Professional Development Program will help bring critical leadership skills to emerging managers, and help companies promote their own workers more effectively.  This will help teams and firms be more productive and reduce time and money spent on recruiting new employees into the region.”

Ellen Babers, P4 Consulting Managing Partner and Program Instructor added, “Fostering and enhancing our local workforce is invaluable. This program will allow companies of all sizes in the Four Corners to provide managerial and leadership skills to key employees, to better promote from within.  A strong talent base makes for a happy business, content employees and a healthy community.”
