Durango Herald Writes: Hope is Our Duty

In a recent editorial piece, the Durango Herald editorial board, highlights the 19th Annual Alliance Summit and it’s key learnings from the day.  Hosted on September 10th, 2026, the 2026 Alliance Summit focused on the theme: Fueling Our Economy and brought together 400 attendees to hear from over 40 speakers.

[Kyla] Scanlon gave the day its closing thought. She invoked Wendell Berry, whom this page wrote about after his death Aug. 31, who said hope is a duty, not a feeling we wait for. She said she sees that hope in La Plata County.

Hope is only a duty if it’s followed by work. This summit reminded us what a mobilized community looks like. Now it’s on all of us to continue the work that hope requires.

Every year, The Alliance Summit gathers leaders from across the Four Corners to learn, connect, and move forward together. This year’s event explored our region’s assets and how each keep our economy moving. To see the full agenda of the day, visit yeslpc.com/2026-alliance-summit
