Durango is home to Fort Lewis College, an independent four-year public liberal arts institution of about 4,100 students, which offers 24 degree programs in the schools of Arts & Sciences, Education, and Business Administration. In addition to its educational mission,Fort Lewis College offers a wealth of service programs for the region including Continuing Education Classes, business consultation, and support for the arts and other organizations. Southwest Colorado Community College is a two-campus division of Pueblo Community College. Southwest Colorado Community College (SCCC) is a fully accredited two-year college, and provides educational programs in both Durango and Mancos to serve the citizens of La Plata, Archuleta, Montezuma, Dolores, and San Juan Counties. The philosophy of the college is that all who feel they have the ability to benefit and the motivation to succeed should have access to higher education.

SCCC awards associates degrees and certificates in a variety of academic and career and technical education programs, including Nursing, CISCO Networking, Business Management/Accounting, and Digital Arts, among others.

SCCC also has a robust workforce training division, offering customized and general public non-credit skills training to strengthen the region’s workforce, such as supervisory and leadership skills, workplace readiness, and human resources. SCCC can even provide mobile learning solutions to meet you and your employees at your worksite.

Located just over the state line in Farmington, San Juan College is one of the largest two-year community colleges in the state of New Mexico, providing quality education to more than 18,000 students annually.

San Juan College offers more than 100 two-year degree and certificate programs in variety of disciplines including healthcare, energy, trades, technology, arts, sciences, business and more. Transfer programs with the University of New Mexico and New Mexico Highlands University allow for four year education and training as well. An array of non-credit classes, as well as services to grow local businesses, is provided through the Center for Community Engagement and the Quality Center for Business.
