Southern Ute Growth Fund

Durango, Colorado is known as one of the best places to work not only because of its spectacular locale where an arid high desert meets snowcapped peaks, but also for its top employers and professional development opportunities. Crossfire LLC provides field services, construction contracting, emergency training, and other products to the oil & gas industry as well as municipal and civil engineering clients.  Founded in 2001, Crossfire has rapidly grown to over 1,000 employees in 14 states, including 400 in the San Juan Basin (La Plata County Colorado, and San Juan County New Mexico) alone.

Crossfire hires across a variety of professions with educational skills ranging from trade positions through engineers and MBA candidates.  They routinely seek out people to support their headquarter operations at the Durango-La Plata County airport, experienced civil construction professionals, welders, CDL-certified truck drivers, engineers, safety technicians, and project managers.  A list of current career opportunities can be found on their webpage.

Fort Lewis College is a 4 year, liberal arts undergraduate college in Durango.  Fort Lewis provides education to 4,000 students, including almost 1,000 Native American  students from over 100 tribes nationwide.  They have programs in the arts & sciences, business, and education, with nationally and internationally recognized engineering and business degrees.  Fort Lewis is also home to the extraordinary Center for Southwest Studies, as well as the Community Concert Hall that brings dozens of events to Durango each year.

Headquartered in Ignacio, Colorado, about 20 miles south of Durango, The Southern Ute Growth Fund is a branch of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe.  Their mission is to help develop the energy holdings of the Southern Ute Indian Reservation and diversify the Southern Ute portfolio through additional oil and gas exploration in other regions, real estate development, alternative energy, and other equity investment opportunities within their core focus areas.

Mercury Payment Systems, now known as Mercury Pay, was founded in 2002 in Durango and has grown into one of the premier payment software companies in the nation.  It was recently sold for $1.7 billion to Vantiv Corporation, and is now responsible for integrating systems across a multi-billion dollar publicly traded company with almost 3,000 employees nationwide.

Mercy Regional Medical Center was established in the late 19th Century.  Over its 100+ year history, Mercy has grown into southwest Colorado’s largest and most technologically advanced hospital.  It is ranked as one of the top 100 hospitals in the nation.  Mercy Regional Medical Center operates on a campus in the Three Springs neighborhood, and on its campus there are now  more than 1,000 health care professionals employed both by the hospital and private practices that reside there.

StoneAge Waterblast Tools was founded in the late 1970s to help support the region’s uranium industry with water nozzles that could literally cut through rock.  After the uranium industry collapsed, StoneAge quickly diversified and began to accommodate water cleaning needs in a variety of industries.  Today, StoneAge products can be found in over 45 countries around the world.  They specialize in mechanized equipment and rotary nozzles that help reduce time and improve safety for industrial operations.
